A meme never hurt anybody...

I am so happy that memes didn't exist when I was in school, but those kids growing up today can't say the same thing. Memes might be funny with an image and a short snippet of text. A lot of them go viral and people get their laughs out of them. Nobody truly gets hurt by them, right? Wrong. If you share a picture that uplifts one body style by putting down another, you are part of the problem. I know that sounds harsh, but I just want to put things into perspective. I don't care who you are, if you have one follower on social media or one million, your words and voice have power. That's how social media works and how things go viral. All it takes is one person to see something and to share it. Then that gets repeated over and over again.

I've been collecting different images that I have seen shared on social media. The people who share them aren't doing so to be malicious or hateful. They think they're funny and those same posts even get comments like "Heck yes!" and "Preach girl!" But what about the people who those pictures actually apply to? Put yourself in their shoes for a minute, how would you feel if there are masses of people saying the way you look is wrong? Now imagine you're an impressionable child or teenager scrolling through the Internet or social media. Do you see where I'm going with this? Words have power in any form they come in.

I don't own any of the images that I've collected so I can't post them here, but I will share what some of them say. This is an example of what I see everyday on social media. I'm in a place in my life where I'm finally coming to terms with my body, but it's taken me a long time. I don't crawl into myself in a depression anymore when I see these images posted, they just make me angry. Angry for those who aren't as secure in their own skin and know those feelings of disgust and sadness because society says their is something wrong with their bodies.

I want to say that I don't agree with starving yourself or putting your body into harmful situations to achieve the "perfect" body. I think that healthy is what is best for every single person no matter what that body type is. Some people struggle with weight gain while others with weight maintenance or loss. Neither is wrong. You can't put people into a box because there is no such thing as perfect and isn't that a good thing. Imagine how boring our world would be if everyone looked exactly the same. So the next time you share an image similar to these put yourself in the shoes of the person it's hurting and think about how you would feel if that was you.

Real men like curves, only dogs go for bones.

Fat and happy is better than skinny and bitchy.

Chubby girls are way better in bed than skinny girls.

Skinny girls look good in clothes. Fit girls look good naked.

Good morning to everyone except people who can eat whatever they want and not gain any weight.

I don't want this to be a negative only post. There are other memes out there that have a positive message and I've collected those as well. I will admit they aren't as common as their counter type, but they do still exist. So I'm attaching them as well.

People always say women tear each other down and society pits us against each other...you know this whole "curvy girls are better than skinny girls" is doing just that right?

She's too curvy,

she needs to lose weight.

She's too skinny,

she needs to eat a burger.

you're too judgmental and

you need to stop that shit.
